Collagen is made up of three polypeptide chains forming three helical strands,That is, each of the three polypeptide chains turns left to form a left-hand spiral structure,They are then interlocked by hydrogen bonds to form a strong right-hand superhelix structure (unique to collagen). Each alpha-peptide chain consists of up to 300 or more Gly-X-Y triplet repeats (X is usually proline (Pro) and Y is usually hydroxyproline (Hyp)). The three left hand spiral chains are intertwined to form the right hand spiral structure, that is, the superhelix structure constitutes the unique "grass rope" triple helix structure of collagen.
The triple helix structure makes the molecular structure of collagen extremely stable, and has low immunogenicity, biocompatibility and degradability. It is the basis for the application of collagen in biological materials, cosmetics and other industries.
It strongly locks in moisture and increases skin elasticity
